Lewis first season for Vodafone McLaren Mercedes' Formula 1 team in 2007 saw him finish the season with 109 points and second in the Drivers' World Championship, narrowly missing out on the title by just two points.

His impressive first season for the team remains the most successful rookie season in the history of the Formula 1 World Championship with consecutive podiums in his first nine races. He entered the record books for his rookie season with wins in Canada, the USA, Hungary and Japan. More points were racked up by finishing second in Malaysia, Bahrain, Spain, Monaco and Italy and third in Australia, France and Britain.

The 2008 season started with a win Australia, career highlight wins in Monaco and Silverstone, in front of his home crowd,  Germany and China. The championship battle  ultimately came down to the last corner of the last lap of the last grand prix of the season in Brazil, where Lewis's 5th place finish saw him take the FIA Formula 1 World Champion title and be crowned the youngest ever champion in Formula 1 history.

In Lewis's first two seasons with Vodaphone McLaren Mercedes, he has won more points than any other driver, and has stood on more podiums than any other driver.
