Lewis meets Goodwood volunteers and winners!

Sunday, 04 October 2009

Lewis Hamilton last month personally thanked a select number of fundraisers and charity prize winners, rewarding their efforts to raise money for the Lewis Hamilton Foundation by inviting them for a tour of the McLaren Technology Centre and a personal meeting with the Formula 1 world champion.

A small party of seven guests, including a volunteer who raised money for the Foundation at the recent Goodwood Festival of Speed, a raffle-winners and pitstop challenge winners were given a tour of the famous McLaren headquarters. They also got to spend 30 minutes with Lewis, who chatted about his recent races, posed for photographs and signed autographs.

From the money raised by the Goodwood fundraising initiatives, donations will be made to two children's hospices.

Speaking about the reasons for setting up his own Foundation, Lewis said: "I've always wanted to do something to help under-privileged children, and that's why we're starting the Lewis Hamilton Foundation.

"We're still in the process of getting things fully up and running, but the weekend of fundraising events at Goodwood was a great way to get things started. I still haven't decided on all the charities that I'll be working with - but the primary aim of the Foundation will be to try and make a difference to the lives of young people who are struggling with life or suffering in some way."
