On 2nd September, Lewis attended the grand finale of the Mercedes-Benz Summer Driving Challenge held at their Driving Academy at Mercedes-Benz World, Brooklands.
Challengers competed throughout the summer in a series of fun driving tasks, of which the best won the chance to not only participate in the grand finale in front of an audience of over 1,500 people but also to beat Lewis' best circuit time.
These finalists, arranged into 10 teams of four, had their abilities tested when they partook in precision parking, slalom, slippery emergency stops and many other events.
Lewis arrived on track in his Mercedes-Benz to a large crowd of eager fans who were desperate to see the British World Champion in action. He impressed the fans by effortlessly going in and out of the cones and by also making "skid-pan" driving look easy. Afterwards, Lewis spent 10 minutes answering questions for a local radio show which was followed by a Q+A session with the crowd. Questions from the crowd included some amusing ones from young enthusiasts. Everyone laughed when "Are you the Stig?" or "I've seen you on Blue Peter..." was heard coming from the crowd.
Lewis then embarked on a two-hour autograph signing session. He didn't want to leave his fans disappointed so made his way through each and every person so that they all went home satisfied.
After completing the signing, he spent time with the winner of the f1.renewappenhans.com "Meet Lewis" competition - Peter Kersten and his guest.
Speaking about the event, Lewis said: "I have thoroughly enjoyed being in the company of all the kids, it's reminded me just how lucky I am to have so many young supporters. I am very proud to be part of this program which gives back so much to young drivers and clearly makes a difference to their outlook on driving."
