Sleeping during the day and working though the night means that a Formula 1 driver’s life is turned on its head during the Singapore Grand Prix weekend. But while Lewis may have been hard at work darting over the kerbs and blasting through the bends of the fabulous Marina Bay circuit until way after sunset, he was kept pretty busy during daylight hours too.
On Tuesday evening, Lewis visited the Mercedes-Benz showroom at the famous Orchard Road’s Paragon Mall to launch the new E-Class roadcar at a specially created Formula 1-themed display. Thrilling more than 1000 fans and filling the floor of the mall (he was wowed by the attendance, later claiming that he had, “never seen such a huge crowd at an event like this.”), Lewis took part in an onstage Q&A, happily signed autographs and chatted to competition winners.
A day later, he appeared alongside Jenson Button at Bridgestone’s event for Singaporean press on the 69th floor of a local hotel. The pair traded jokes in front of the local audience before taking part in a Q&A session and posing for pics with Bridgestone management.
Later the same evening, Lewis was special guest at the grand opening of TAG Heuer’s flagship boutique at Singapore’s new ION Mall. Also in attendance was Jean-Christophe Babin, TAG’s CEO, who quizzed Lewis in front of an enthusiastic crowd.
All in all, the world champ’s whistlestop tour of the city was a fantastic success and left him revved up for the thrills and spills of the spectacular Marina Bay street track.
