As personal mantras go, ‘Free Friday’ isn’t a bad one with which to begin. The unofficial start to the weekend always promises great things – particularly if you were one of the two million Vodafone customers who landed the chance to win a luxury trip to the McLaren Technology Centre today.
Vodafone kicked off its Free Friday campaign at the start of October, offering its customers the chance to sign up for free Formula 1 SMS alerts. Every subscriber was automatically entered into a prize draw to win a visit to MTC – the home of the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team in Woking, Surrey.
Of those two million entrants, more than 600 were picked for the event, and began turning up at MTC on the afternoon of Friday October 23 to be given a fascinating insight into how a state-of-the-art Formula 1 facility operates, and to also meet the men and women who helped turn Lewis Hamilton’s world championship dreams into reality.
Guests will get the chance to tour the MTC boulevard and learn more about McLaren’s world championship-winning heritage and its collection of iconic grand prix cars before Lewis takes the stage for a Q&A and a meet and greet with Vodafone prize winners.
For Lewis, today’s event gives him the opportunity to say thank you to all the Vodafone customers who have never lost faith in both his and the team’s incredible efforts to get back to the front.
He said: “I think it’s great that Vodafone has given its customers such an incredible opportunity to get behind the scenes at the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team, to see where I work and how we design, build and develop the cars that you usually only get to watch on TV.
“For me, MTC is like a second home. I’m here every week, working hard with my engineers to improve the car ahead of the next race. I hope people will appreciate what an incredible place this is, and just how hard we’ve worked to get back to our winning ways.”
