Oliver Goodwin 'Lives the Dream' with Lewis Hamilton

Friday, 23 October 2009

It's not every day that you get the chance to race with Lewis Hamilton around a snowy racetrack before splattering the 2008 Formula 1 world champion in a pool of mud and challenging him through a terrifying 'tunnel of doom'.

But for seven-year-old Oliver Goodwin, it was simply a chance to Live The Dream - courtesy of Marks & Spencer and Vodafone McLaren Mercedes.

Lucky Oliver, from Glossop in Derbyshire, created his tunnel of doom racetrack on the livingyourdream.com website - where youngsters can use a special graphics engine to conceive, illustrate, and even give voice to, their dreams - and was selected from thousands of entrants to be Marks & Spencer's first-ever winner.

Oliver's dream was made into reality at the McLaren Technology Centre, where he not only got the chance to put Lewis through his paces in a radio-controlled car duel, but also spent time chatting with the 2008 world champion alongside his mother and father Peter and Sally, and his sisters Emily (six) and Charlotte (two).

Oliver's day to remember was capped off with a tour of McLaren's historic grand prix car and memorabilia collection. He said: "It was a great surprise to find out I'd won. None of my friends at school believed I was actually going to meet Lewis Hamilton - but now I have the photos to prove it!"

The competition runs alongside Marks & Spencer's Living The Dream collection of grand prix-themed boyswear, which is available nationwide from stores and the McLaren eShop. The range has been inspired by the design and technology used by the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team and its two drivers Lewis Hamilton and Heikki Kovalainen.

A percentage of the sale of each item funds the Living The Dream project to fund the dreams submitted by children each month.
