Lewis Hamilton's never-give-up attitude at the wheel of the MP4-24 has earned him the John Cobb Trophy - the annual award given by the British Racing Drivers' Club to the driver who has achieved successes of the most outstanding character during the past season.
With Lewis unable to receive the award in person at the club's awards lunch today, he instead filmed a brief acceptance speech with club president Damon Hill at the McLaren Technology Centre last week.
Lewis said: "To receive the John Cobb Trophy from the BRDC is a fantastic honour - and it's one that I must accept on behalf of the whole Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team. While it's very humbling to be recognised for my own efforts, the award really belongs to the many, many men and women who worked so tirelessly to help return our car to full competitiveness. It is only through their hard work and determination that we were able to taste victory this season."
The panel selected Lewis for his attitude and spirit while driving an uncompetitive car during the first half of the season, and for his outstanding performances in the second half, when the car was made radically more competitive.
Lewis also won the trophy in 2008, joining a list of recent former winners that include Thrust SSC pilot and world land speed record holder Andy Green, 2003's ‘Bentley Boys' (Mark Blundell, Johnny Herbert and Guy Smith), Dario Franchitti and Andy Wallace.
