Hamilton and Henry get more mileage as they go head-to-head to launch Reebok's new ZigTech training shoe

Wednesday, 24 February 2010

Today, soccer star Thierry Henry and driving ace Lewis Hamilton challenged each other to a physical duel in Barcelona.  The superstar pair went head to head and put their fitness to the test in a training contest with a twist.

The ZigTech Showdown is a test of pure fitness and physical stamina and Henry and Hamilton have a secret weapon in Reebok's new ZigTech footwear- the brand's most technically advanced running and training shoe.

ZigTech technology demands less of your key leg muscles, so you can do more, giving you more energy to run faster and train longer. It's like an energy drink for your feet.

Everything about Reebok's ZigTech is designed to conserve and return energy to the athlete for a soft and springy ride. The one-of-a-kind ZigTech bottom unit features an innovative, lightweight foam that is engineered into a dramatic, geometric, zig-zag shape. This one-of-a-kind zig-shaped sole absorbs the impact of heel strike and sends a wave of energy along the length of the shoe propelling the athlete forward with each step.

On trying out the technology for himself Lewis Hamilton said, "The energy that I get from ZigTech is phenomenal. I've never known anything like it from a training shoe and now that I can train harder, faster and for longer, nothing and no one will be able to stop me, not even Thierry! It's been great to meet him today, he's a superstar and a nice guy, but that doesn't mean that I'd ever go easy on him when we're up against each other."

Thierry Henry agreed, "Lewis may be younger than me but with my new ZigTech shoes I'm backing myself in this race against him. I can't lose. The trainers are perfect for me and my needs - they are bold and give me that extra boost to be able to perform at my very best."

The team behind the technology is led by Bill McInnis, Reebok's Head of Advanced Innovation who explained how the shoe works. Bill said, "Traditional energy return is focused only on the vertical impact of the heel strike. In contrast, ZigTech is designed to transfer energy horizontally along the zigs so the athlete gets that energy back in the forefoot."

The lightweight, flexible bottom unit, combined with a minimalist upper and whisper-quiet ground contact also contribute to making ZigTech a new standard in running and training footwear. In fact, by wearing Reebok's ZigTech footwear, training longer just got easier. The technology causes up to 20% less wear and tear on key leg muscles, especially the shins and hamstrings.

Henry knows just how important this benefit is, given the strain he puts on his legs during the football season. He said, "Wearing ZigTech give players a bounce, an energy that lets us train longer with less strain on key leg muscles, like shins.  This ultimately enables athletes to stay healthier during the long season."

Reebok's ZigTech footwear collection is available for men and women in an array of bold, bright colours that will make you truly stand out in the gym and on the court, field or track.

Henry and Hamilton are just two of the superstar athletes across the globe who will be able to run and train in ZigTech footwear.  Basketball icons Allen Iverson and Yao Ming, football star Ryan Giggs and hundreds more athletes will be able to train harder and longer thanks to this innovative new technology from Reebok.
