This year he bounced back with the more competitive MP4-25 at his disposal. He led at the halfway point in the season after wins in Turkey and Canada. A third win followed in Belgium but his championship campaign hit trouble shortly afterwards with collisions putting him out in Italy and Singapore. He stayed in contention until the final round, where he finished second, leaving him fourth in the championship.
