"Austin is really vibrant, a lot like places in Montreal, the fans make a huge effort and so does America for the race. It's definately one I would recommend going to; my family come every year.

I went there last year and was not expecting to be as competitive as we were and it was really cool to hunt down Sebastian and take the first win.

It's a really cool track, very smooth so you can have a really stiff set up. It's also a tough track follow another car on".

In 1998, Hamilton is signed by McLaren and the team’s partners Mercedes-Benz to become part of their Young Driver Support Programme.

With the backing of McLaren, Hamilton won both European and World Karting titles.
